The Fairy Queen
—A Fantasia in the Forest
Opera Poster and Programme

Client: Royal Irish Academy of Music

Client Brief:

This is a poster and programme design for the Royal Irish Academy of Music’s production of Henry Purcell’s The Fairy Queen. RIAM requested a poster that told the story of the opera whilst capturing the attention of a young audience.

Our Response:

The opera is known as ‘A Fantasia in the Forest’ so scenes of such that tell the story are depicted in droplets which cling to a wall. These are droplets of purple magic love potion which Puck, the nymph, sprinkles over the flowers and players entrancing them under a love spell. They represent and offer a mirror into the fantastical world all of those under the spell experienced when they come into contact with the magic potion.
